Wondering what to do with chimichurri? This easy chimichurri butter baguette is one of the quickest and most delicious ways to use it. Crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, this CHIMMY'S Chimichurri Butter Baguette is an easy side dish that's bursting with fresh herbs, garlic and buttery flavour. Perfect alongside barbecued meats, grilled fish, pasta dishes or simply enjoyed as a warm sharing starter.

Ingredients

  • 1 baguette
  • 100g unsalted butter, softened
  • 100g CHIMMY'S Chimichurri
  • A pinch of Maldon sea salt

Method

1. Make the Chimichurri Butter

Cut the butter into cubes and leave at room temperature until softened. If you're short on time, microwave it for a few seconds until just soft — but not melted. In a bowl, combine the softened butter with CHIMMY'S Chimichurri and a pinch of Maldon sea salt. Mix until smooth and evenly combined.

2. Prepare the Baguette

Using a serrated knife, make deep cuts across the baguette at regular intervals, taking care not to slice all the way through. Spread the chimichurri butter generously into each cut and over the top of the loaf.

3. Bake

Place the baguette on a baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 160°C for 15–20 minutes, or until the butter has melted into the bread and the crust is crisp and golden. Serve immediately while warm.

Serving Suggestions

This chimichurri bread is the perfect accompaniment to barbecued steaks and burgers, grilled chicken, roasted vegetables, soups and salads, pasta dishes, or cheese boards and sharing platters.

Recipe Tips

  • Use good-quality salted or unsalted butter for the richest flavour.
  • Wrap the baguette in foil before baking for a softer centre, then uncover for the final 5 minutes to crisp the crust.
  • Sprinkle over grated Parmesan or mozzarella before baking for a cheesy twist.
  • Add a little lemon zest for extra freshness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make chimichurri butter in advance?
Yes. Mix the butter and CHIMMY'S Chimichurri up to three days ahead and store it in the fridge. Bring it back to room temperature before spreading.

Can I freeze chimichurri butter?
Absolutely. Roll the butter into a log using baking paper or cling film and freeze for up to three months. Slice off portions as needed.

What bread works best?
A crusty baguette is ideal, but sourdough, ciabatta or a rustic country loaf all work beautifully.

Can I cook this on a barbecue?
Yes. Wrap the prepared baguette in foil and cook over indirect heat for around 15 minutes. Open the foil for the final few minutes if you'd like a crispier crust.
